"Most people do well to drink when they’re thirsty." That's the gist of an article in the LA times today that weighs the merits of the popular assertion that we should drink 6-8 glasses of water every day.
They suggest a rule you can use to know if you're properly hydrated: you should "produce 1.5 liters (6.3 cups) or more of colorless or slightly yellow urine a day." A way to measure that is to find a 1.5 liter bottle (available in Europe) or 6.3 measuring cups with lids, and carry them with you for a 24-hour period in which you fill them exactly to the top with urine. Then do that every day.
