Leaf Knowledge Impresses, Isolates

Leafsnap is poised to be the coolest new app of 2011. All you have to do is pick up a leaf, put it on a piece of notebook paper for a plain white background, and take a picture with your iPhone. The program then tells you what kind of tree you’re by. It can even tell you about the tree and help you find other places where there are similar trees.
But, really, who has plain white notebook paper with them to take the photo? All of my notebooks are already completely full of drawings of trees. And if I did have a notebook with empty pages in it, I would go straight home and draw trees. It’s not like I would be just wandering around picking things up off the dirty forest floor.
